Martin Luther 1483-1546
Martin Luther’s greatest hymn was written thirteen years after he posted his Ninety-five theses on the door of the Wittenberg Church. He was excommunicated from the Roman church, faced threats to his life and freedom and experienced many spiritual battles. He found comfort in the words of Psalms 46.
Carefully read the words of this hymn and while it was written not written in modern English each line has truths we can agree with today.
“Were not the right man on our side – Christ Jesus it is He. Though this world with devils filled should threaten to undo us- One little word shall fail him”.
What powerful words written hundreds of years ago that can still give courage to Christians today as we know who is on our side!
