Finding a Hymn to Sing!

Connie Sanchez

Some days it is hard to focus on respectful things as written in Philippians 4:8. I find myself reading a Psalm, listening to gospel music or even playing through the hymn book looking for some encouragement.  After replaying Donald Trump's inauguration speech and the six prayers that were included I found myself looking for a hint of scripture that might lead to a " song to sing".

Today I will share what I found in the speech itself and I welcome others to share any positive "encouragement" they find based on scripture. Tomorrow I will start looking at the prayers.

President Trump quoted "How good and pleasant for brothers to dwell together in unity . . from Psalm 133:1.

I thought of the hymn Blest Be the Tie that Binds. Part of it says " Before our Father's throne we pour our ardent prayers; our fears, our hopes, our aims are one, our comforts and our cares.  We share each other's woes, our mutual burdens bear, and often for each other flows the sympathizing tear."

The second scripture reference I found in the speech was ," We all look up at the same night sky, have breath from the Almighty Creator." Genesis 2:7  " then the Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life;

 Job 12:10 " In whose hand is the life of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind?"

The first song to come to mind is All Things Bright and Beautiful, "How great is the Almighty God who has made all things well."

Ok I have my 2 songs to sing for the day. How about you??
