In the book O Worship the King Joni Ereckson Tada tells the story of Jehoshaphat from 2 Chronicles 20:21-22. When he was confronted by a large army of Ammonites and Moabites who did Jehoshaphat send out on the front line to meet the enemy? He sent the choir!!! Men went ahead of the army singing praise to God for his HOLINESS. What happened? The army of the enemy became confused and started attacking each other.
Often we are involved in a battle in the dark and afraid of the enemy who is always ready to attack. If we are singing praises to God it is like turning on a spotlight shinning God’s glory in the face of evil.
The hymn says that God’s glory is “unapproachable light” and means that God dwells in His own glory.
Amy Carmichael, missionary to India, says, “I truly believe that Satan cannot endure the power of song and so slips out of the room . . . . when there is a hymn of praise”.
So next time you are involved in a spiritual war with evil – SING PRAISE!
